Transcript - If you watch the Big Bang Theory on CBS television you see these clueless nerds who are doormats when ti comes to the opposite sex, right. And you realize is there any basis in reality? First of all none of my friends are like that and all my friends are physicists, right. Well there is a kernel of truth and that is some of these individuals may suffer from something called Asperger's Syndrome which is a mild form of autism. These people are clueless when it comes to social interactions. They don't look you in the eye, for example. And yet they have fantastic mental and mathematical capabilities.

Hollywood has provided some vivid images of what might happen when AI gains superhuman powers. This includes the various disasters depicted in Terminator and Transcendence. These films are science fiction, but appear to have some of their plot lines rooted in potential near-future real-world developments. Should we be worried about real-world near-equivalents of Dr Will Caster? If so, what sort of evasive action should we be taking?
This London Futurists Hangout On Air assembles an international panel of analysts who have thought long and hard about the potential of superhuman AI: Calum Chace, Stuart Armstong, and Nikola Danaylov.
The panellists will be debating a number of far-reaching questions raised by recent Hollywood AI extravaganzas:
• Which elements of Transcendence are the least credible? Which elements are the most credible?
• How soon will we see the first human-level AI? Haven't computer scientists been wrong about their predictions of timing many times before? Why should we take their latest predictions any more seriously than previous ones?
• Aren't human minds just too complex and mysterious to be replicated?

Mobile phones, television, satellites, the internet... realities that were science fiction, our grandparents were reading about this scifi world in comic books, dreaming of the day humans would walk on the moon. Today, we can't imagine a world without those innovations. We have become completely dependent on technology, and it is changing us.
The change isn't going to stop.
Science fiction has paved the way to godhood, by sparking the innate human desire for more. Scientists today are just scratching the surface of the fabric of our reality through these four major technologies:
genetics, robotics, nanotech, and artificial intelligence.
Scientists are merging human DNA with animal DNA and creating chimera's like the ones described in H.G. Wells' The Island of Dr. Moreau. We are already connecting robotic limbs to the mind, and creating cyborgs. We have the dream of creating Artificial Intelligence so advanced that it becomes sentient, and the final frontier of nanotechnology, with its dream of manipulating matter itself!
